Kamal’s next film Nadan zooms on theatre artistes

The film will traverse through the great troupe KPAC, which played the prominent role in the development of Kerala's theater movement.

After his much acclaimed movie ‘Celluloid‘ which told the story of the father of Malayalam cinema J C Daniel, Director Kamal is gearing up for his next project which traces the origin of Kerala’s historic theatre era.

Titled ‘Nadan’ which features Jayaram in lead, focuses on the history and relevance of stage plays and artistes. ‘Nadan’ tells the story of a popular drama troupe owned by Jayaram, which was managed by his father and grandfather.  The problems faced by the owner and his existence are being addressed here.

The film will traverse through the great troupe KPAC, which played the prominent role in the development of Kerala’s theater movement. The film will also bring the greats of that time including Ochira Velukutty, who was known for his female roles in the plays and P J Antony, who founded the Prathibha Theaters. Two of the great plays “Ningalenne Communistakki” and “Mudiyanaaya Puthran” will be featured in the movie for a special touch.

Other than Jayaram, a number of theatre artistes would play supporting roles in the movie. Suresh Babu who had scripted for films like Shikkar will script for Nadan. The movie would go on floor by the end of July.

Kamal and Jayaram  had worked together to give many hits in the past like “Shubhayathra”, “Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu”, “Thooval Sparsham” and “Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal” and their last outing was “Swapna Sanchari”. Let’s hope that Kamal’s ‘Nadan’ will be another treat for the Malayalam film lovers.
