The city police have made elaborate arrangements for the Attukal Pongala. Already 1,100 police personnel led by senior officers have been deployed in and around the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
The Trivandrum city corporation is said to have completed all arraignments for the Attukal Pongala festival. The city corporation led by Mayor K Chandrika is supervising the progress of the activities for ensuring a clean environment for the devotees.
Trivandrum City Corporation has also issued guidelines on conduct of Pongala. The production, sales and use of unbaked bricks in the areas where the offering takes place is prohibited. Voluntary organizations, residents’ associations and other organizations may supply free food/drinking water only after getting permission from the Food Safety Commissioner. Plastic cups and plates, plastic carry bags are strictly prohibited.
There are also a set of guidelines to follow for those who offer the Pongala. The bricks used for Pongala have to be neatly stacked on the roadside without causing inconvenience of any kind. Devotees should put down the fire in the hearths and the solid/bio waste must be removed. The authorities have asked the devotees to refrain from lighting the hearths on the pavement tiles of sidewalks.
More than 5000 Cops will be deployed
The city police have made elaborate arrangements for the Attukal Pongala. Already 1,100 police personnel led by senior officers have been deployed in and around the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. There are 14 police aid posts around the temple, 37 police pickets and 25 foot patrol units.
To prevent theft and atrocities against women, a special team of Shadow Police have been deployed around the temple. Apart from these more than 30 closed-circuits TV cameras are installed and visuals are monitored at the special police control room near the temple and also at the city police control room.
