Ban for Deepa Mehta’s ‘Midnight Children’

Congress leaders came against 'Midnight Children' alleging that the film features Indira Gandhi in a negative manner.

Monday bloomed with Deepa Mehta’s ‘Midnight Children’ but Tuesday’s morning rose with controversies. Yesterday IFFK witnessed the rush for Mehta’s movie as if it is the releasing day of a superstar movie. Even our Minister KB Ganesh Kumar didn’t get chair to view the movie where as director Priyadarshan managed with a stool.

Deepa Mehta, the director of the movie got a red carpet welcome yesterday just before the beginning of the show. Her movie is the filmy version of the Booker Prize winner Salman Rushdie’s controversial book with the same name ‘Midnight Children’.

After yesterday’s show Congress leaders came against the movie and asked to ban the film’s reshow. They said that the film is featuring former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a negative manner.

The ‘Midnight Children‘ was not shown in the Goa IFFI and there was an allegation that the film was shown at the IFFK as according to the interests of some people within the academy.

After yesterday’s show Deepa Mehta said to the media that her movie ‘Midnight children’ is a love letter to India. The actors of the movie Rahul Bose and Rajath Kapoor also attended the meet the press.
