First Model ‘Biopark’ For Eco- friendly Waste Management Open In Trivandrum!

The biopark would cater to all the waste management requirements of the legislative assembly complex.

Suchitwa Mission has set up the first model biopark on the premises of legislative assembly in order to decompose solid waste in an eco-friendly mode.

The biopark integrates decentralised management of waste and live demonstration of waste management methods in the most hygienic environment. The biopark would cater to all the waste management requirements of the legislative assembly complex.

The biopark will function as a model to the public in composting waste and generating various by-products like manure and biogas.

The park has an area of 1,200 sq ft space with GI roofing and concrete floor topped with red oxide. It also contains seven different models of source-level waste management – aerobic bins, ring compost, pipe compost, pot compost, vermin compost, bucket compost and biogas plant. Twelve units of aerobic bins and a biogas plant with the capacity to process 50kg waste a day are already functional at the biopark.

The organic compost from the park can be used for promoting agricultural activities on the assembly complex premises. Besides, gas generated from the biogas plant will be used in the assembly canteen.

Similar bioparks will be set up at various government offices across the state.
