Chakka Mahotsavam- A Huge Hit Among Trivandrumites!

The 10-day long Ananthapuri Chakka Mahotsavam will conclude on July 9. The exhibition is held at Suryakanthi exhibition ground in Kanakanunnu and is open from 11 am to 9 pm.

The 10-day Ananthapuri Chakka Mahotsavam which started on July 1st has become a huge hit among Trivandurmites.

The Jackfruit Festival has an exhibition-cum-sale of various types of jackfruits and many numbers of food stalls that serve mouth-watering dishes made from Jackfruit.

100 Different varieties of foods using Jackfruit

As many as 100 different types of foods prepared using Jackfruits are available at the festival. This includes foods such as home-made jackfruit chocolate, sweet desserts, cookies and biscuits to spicy snacks and condiments.

Chakka Mahotsavam also features a live kitchen where you will get mouth-watering snacks such as chilli jackfruit, therali, ullivada and churukka made out of jackfruit.

Puttu+Chakka=Bliss

A hit among the visitors is the Chakka Puttu which is Malayalee’s favourite puttu but made by including jackfruit to the ingredients. Another popular dish at the festival is the ‘kumpil appam’ made by steaming a mix of jackfruit, melted jaggery and rice powder wrapped in ‘therali’ leaf. The chakka Payasam is also a crowd-puller at the festival with people having it again and again.

Traditional Kerala Sadya but with a twist

There is also a traditional Kerala Sadya called jackfruit sadhya where meals are served along with different varieties of curry and dessert made from using jackfruit. It has 19 dishes including chakka sambar, chakkakuru (jackfruit seeds) thoran, chakka mullu, two types of chakka payasam. The Kerala Sadya is priced at Rs150/leaf.

 

There is also a traditional Kerala Sadya with 19 different varieties of curry and dessert made from using jackfruit.

Buy many varieties of Jackfruit Saplings

You will also get to buy jackfruit saplings like Vietnam early gold, all-season chemparathi varikka, sindhoora varikka, kullanplaavu etc which will bear fruits within one year. One can also bring the branches of the jackfruit tree to the venue for budding.

The process of budding will be done by experts for free. There will be a cooking competition on making a maximum number of products out of jackfruit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Ananthapuri Chakka Mahotsavam is jointly organised by Jackfruit Promotion Council, the College of Agriculture at Vellayani and many other organisations with the support of the Agriculture Department.
