According to CIAL, there will be 55 check-in counters and five aerobridges at the renovated Terminal. Currently, there is only 29 check-in counters and no aerobridge.
Soon, the domestic terminal of Cochin International Airport will have an international feel. The old international terminal at CIAL has undergone a Rs 100-crore renovation and will soon be opened for domestic operation with world-class facilities and amenities.
According to CIAL, there will be 55 check-in counters and five aerobridges at the renovated Terminal. Currently, there is only 29 check-in counters and no aerobridge. The renovated terminal will have a spacious security hold area which can accommodate a large number of passengers. The floor area also has been increased from 1.3lakh sq.ft to 5 lakh sq.ft.
The renovation reflects the growth potential of the fast-growing airport, If the statistics are true, India is expected to be the third largest aviation market by 2020 and the largest by 2030. In view of this vision, CIAL has taken up the expansion of the domestic terminal.
CIAL also marked a growth of 15.06% in passenger traffic last fiscal. The domestic sector alone witnessed a 26% increase in passenger traffic compared to previous years.
“With 49.98 lakh passenger movements in the international sector and 39.42 lakh passengers in the domestic sector, CIAL continues to be the only airport in the state handling more than five million passengers a year,” said an officer.
