Trivandrum Airport to have a ‘Domestic Cargo Terminal’ by next month!

AAI have completed all the preliminary works needed for the cargo terminal at the old building at the domestic terminal.

It seems like Trivandrum International Airport is on an expansion mode. By the end of next month, Trivandrum International Airport will have a common user domestic cargo terminal (CUDCT). CUDT will come up at the domestic terminal of the airport. Central Government has issued a directive to provide CUDT at all airports.

AAI have completed all the preliminary works needed for the cargo terminal at the old building at the domestic terminal. At present, AAI is waiting for the arrival of a new X-ray machine to complete the installation work. The X-ray machine worth Rs 45 lakh for the CUDCT is being brought from Mumbai.

Currently, there is not much cargo service from the airport. However, Air cargo is expected to grow after the completion of Vizhinjam seaport project.

AAI has informed all airline operators about the CUDCT at the domestic terminal and asked them to join the service. Currently, there is not much cargo service from the airport. However, Air cargo is expected to grow after the completion of Vizhinjam seaport project.

The common user cargo facility under a single roof will also benefit the domestic terminal area, which has remained underutilised since the majority of flights now operate from the international terminal. Currently, only two airlines – Indigo and Jet Airways – operate their flights from the domestic terminal.  Air India and Jet Airways have their own terminal for domestic cargo service adjacent to the domestic terminal. While at International Terminal, air cargo operations are carried out by an external operating agency called Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE).
