Metro man E Sreedharan recently said that Government is unenthusiastic about metro. E Sreedharan recently said that the future of the Trivandrum and Kozhikode light metro projects are in the hands of the government.

He said that the government is disinterested in realising the project and already one and half years have been lost. Sreedharan says DMRC has done its part. DMRC has submitted the report on the preliminary works and the modifications according to the new metro guidelines. Even though government decided to entrust DMRC with the Metro project, no agreement has been signed yet and without an agreement, no work can be started.

Sreedharan also said that DMRC is not interested in taking up the project if only the preliminary works are awarded. The full project should be given. There is no need of DMRC just for the preliminary works, the PWD can do it.

Metro project in Trivandrum and Kozhikode includes a rail project of 35.12km worth Rs 6728 crore. The estimated expense has been increased due to the delay. Preliminary works, including overbridges, are yet to be constructed. Four flyovers are planned for the Metro project in Trivandrum which are yet to be started.
