India Post to setup ATMs in Trivandrum
#EnteThiruvananthapuram: Earlier this year India Post opened country’s first Post Office Savings Bank ATM in Chennai followed by Delhi. Now Postal Department’s ATMs are coming to Trivandrum.
The new ATMs will benefit 11.77 lakh postal savings account holders in the city. The ATMs will be installed at the GPO in the city and sub post offices at Poojappura, Neyyattinkara, and Attingal. Work had commenced to set up the machines at the GPO and Neyyattinkara. The machine would become functional within a month.
The department is issuing ATM cards to postal savings bank account holders through which they can withdraw money from Postal ATMs.
Currently, the ATMs will only serve customers with postal savings account for first 6-8 months. After that the ATMs will be linked with ATMs of other banks. Thereafter customers of any bank will be able to withdraw money and India Post customer will be able to use other ATM.
India Post would also provide postal saving account holders online banking and mobile banking facilities. Meanwhile, Postal department’s scheme of transferring money instantly through mobile phone is getting good user base with nearly 200 people using the facility monthly.
India Post will also be installed at Kottarakara, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kannur soon.
