Trivandrum may soon get caught in the Football frenzy as the Greenfield Stadium at Kariyavattom is expected to be completed by July 2015.
If the reports are true, talks have started for staging four home matches of Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Kerala Blasters. Discussions are also in place to host a few matches of the upcoming 2016 ICC World Twenty20 and a few matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sachin Tendulkar is also interested in making this stadium the home ground of Kerala Blasters.
Kerala Blasters’ owner Sachin Tendulkar, who was here for the inaugural ceremony of the National Games described the Karyavattom Stadium as the best in India. The first phase of construction of the stadium was completed in time for the National Games held in February. The stadium will be fully-fledged by July. The multi-purpose stadium will have a clubhouse with 5-Star facilities, swimming pools, badminton, basketball and volleyball courts.
The stadium is constructed at a cost of Rs 261 crore. Out of which, Rs 100 crore is invested by IL&FS. The onus of maintaining the stadium for 15 years and finding revenue rests with IL&FS. For that reasons, IL&FS will have to bring in games at the stadium.
