The railway station lacks even the basic facilities such as rest rooms and refreshment stalls.
#EnteThiruvananthapuram: Last week, the Railways have sanctioned stops for seven more trains at Kazhakoottam railway station which was a long pending request of the techies at Technopark and the residents of Kazhakoottam. However, Railways needs to show a greater sense of urgency in improving passenger amenities at Kazhakoottam railway station.
The basic passenger amenities of the railway station still need to be improved. The railway station lacks even the basic facilities such as rest rooms and refreshment stalls. A few months ago, the Railways invited applications for starting refreshment stalls, but Kazhakoottam did not get any respondents.
The Kazhakoottam station is listed in the E-category as it generates least revenue annually. With sanctioning of more trains, Kazhakoottam Railway Station has seen a tremendous rise in the number of tickets sold and a huge positive response from the people. Last week, the station generated more than Rs 1lakh in a day. Last Friday alone, more than 1,000 tickets were sold and a total amount of Rs 68,026 was collected.
If the station continues to generate high revenue compared to previous years, Railways may upgrade the category of Kazhakoottam Station. As Indian Railway decided to allot more stops at the station, the passengers expect a same positive approach in the case of providing the basic facilities too.
