The association of Travel Agents (ABTA), the largest and prominent travel and tours operators association in the United Kingdom has listed Kerala as one of the ‘Destination to watch’ in 2017.
ABTA has listed 12 tourist spots from across the world and Kerala is the only Indian destination that entered the list. The list, featured in ABTA’s ‘Travel Trends Report 2017’, has Kerala in the eighth spot.
As per ABTA, a a journey through the serene backwaters in the traditional houseboat, the life of the local people, spice plantations and forests are among the not to miss experiences of the state. The association also mentioned about Kerala’s famous Ayurvedic rejuvenation therapy.
Other tourist destinations which featured in the list include the US, Sardinia (island of Italy), South Africa and Vietnam. The list also features Andalucia (Spain), the Azores islands (of Portugal), Bermuda, Chile, Croatia and Denmark.
In 2015, Kerala received 1,66,792 tourists from Britain, which accounted for a 17.06 per cent share of the total foreign tourist arrivals to the state.
Earlier, Kerla has been voted ‘favourite Indian leisure destination’ of the year, according to a survey conducted by the US based Conde Nast Traveller magazine. And after that, God’s Own Country has been awarded the ‘best honeymoon destination’ in the country by a travel website Travel + Leisure.
