Kerala is planning to make the state fully digital by 2016.
Kerala Government has launched its ambitious e-District portal that offers a host of government services and payments. With the new system, the payment for several government services such as personal documents, payments under the Right to Information Act, utility bills etc can be made online.
Nine governments such as revenue, motor vehicle, local self-government, welfare, cultural affairs, labour, Kerala police, KSEB, BSNL, KWA, two universities – Calicut and MG can be accessed via e-District Portal. Besides the prescribed fees, a service charge of Rs10 and a gateway charge of Rs 2 will be applicable for each transaction. Payments can be made using Credit/ Debit cards of 66 banks.
How to use e-District portal
To use the e-District public portal, log onto edistrict.kerala.gov.in. The applicants have to do a one-time registration. Aadhaar Number, Email Id, Mobile phone Number is mandatory for registration. To do this, click the one-time registration button and fill all details. Then click on the ‘Check Duplicate’ button to find out if you have already registered through Akshaya Centre. After this, click the ‘Submit’ button to register. The registered details can be edited later by click the ‘Edit Registration’ button.
How to use pay utility bills?
Log on to e-District website and select the ‘Payment Service” option from the menu. Then select the required service from the menu shown. For example, if you want to pay the electricity bill, select Electricity bill option and enter your Electrical Section, Bill Number and Consumer Number. After this click the ‘Fetch’ button to get your bill details. Check the bill is correct and click the ‘Make Payment’ button and proceed to payment gateway. Complete the payment by using a convenient method. Follow the same procedure for paying Water Bill, BSNL Phone bill, E-Challan, MVD Fees, etc.
Apply for a certificate?
Select the ‘Certificate Service’ menu from the e-District portal. Select the Language option and enter the registration number. All your details will be displayed. Fill up the remaining details and click ‘Verify and submit’ button. After this, you will be redirected to the payment gateway. Complete the payment and print the receipt which will have all the details.
Submitting an RTI application
Choose the ‘RTI Services’ from the main menu and select the ‘Normal Application’ and choose the language. Fill up the RTI specific details such as department, district office, and the question. Verify all details and submit. Make the payment using any convenient method. You can also print your application using the print button.
