KSEB introduces next-gen electricity distribution in Trivandrum!

This relatively new technology was being used at the Manjadi region for a year on experimental basis.

For the first time in the state, KSEB has introduced state-of-the-art technology for electricity distribution in Trivandrum using high voltage distribution system (HVDS).

Soon, households in the Manjadi region near Peyad, Trivandrum will get to enjoy the benefits of HVDS. This is the first time that HVDS is being introduced in place of the low voltage distribution system for giving electrical connection to households. High quality power supply and least number of power interruptions are the major advantage of HVDS system. The system is used in several developed countries across the globe.

While transmission loss of power in LT lines is between 8-10%, the same in HVDS is only 1%.

HVDS system don’t use low tension electricity lines which are now widely in use. Instead, power is taken from the 11KV line and is stepped-down using step-down transformers. Then service wire to the households is connected to these transformers.

Since the power is drawn from the 11-Kv line, the chances for frequent power outages are very less. It will also help to reduce transmission loss. While transmission loss of power in LT lines is between 8-10%, the same in HVDS is only 1%.

HVDS is highly recommendable for a state like Kerala where people are thickly populated.

HVDS can be considered as the next generation distribution mechanism in Kerala. According to KSEB officials, HVDS is highly recommendable for a state like Kerala where people are thickly populated. This relatively new technology was being used at the Manjadi region for a year on experimental basis. Soon, KSEB will introduce this technology in other parts of the state.
