A government institution has come forward to take on lease an entire floor of the KSRTC bus terminal complex. Authorities are hoping that this will boost their chances of leasing out the remaining commercial space in the 12-storey complex.

A board meeting of the Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation (KTDFC) that executed the project on BOT basis for KSRTC will take a call on the offer. “Many are now coming forward with business ventures and we are hopeful of leasing out the remaining space soon,” said a KTDFC official.

Since its inauguration on February 2, 2014, only 10% of the commercial space, mainly on the ground floor, had been leased out.

Since its inauguration on February 2, 2014, only 10% of the commercial space, mainly on the ground floor, had been leased out. Only less than a dozen shops and two ATMs had started functioning in the complex.  Parking lots in the Rs.65-crore complex had also been leased out. Those who opened shops after paying deposits are cursing themselves as the building lacks the basic facilities.

Only less than a dozen shops and two ATMs had started functioning in the complex.

Meanwhile, the washrooms are closed while escalators and elevators are remain unused and gathering dust. This is because public do not have access to the upper floors. The keys of the toilets are with the staff working in the shops. The public has been barred from using them.

Let’s hope that with the arrival of the government institution in the complex, more commercial institutions will follow and terminal will become fully fledged like it was envisaged.
