Chalachitra Academy has decided to fix the venue at the government-owned land at Kowdiar. According to Academy officials, the 3.5 acres of land adjacent to Kowdiar place was identified for constructing a complex with multiple screens and other facilities.
The festival complex will serve as a normal multiplex theatre except during the one week of IFFK. Multiplexes, food court and other facilities are being planned. There will be separate screens for award screenings and other facilities like conference hall. However, the final decision will be made only after discussing with the government in the coming days.
Move by the Academy to setup the proposed complex within the city had brought cheers to the IFFK lovers.
Meanwhile, the art and heritage commission has already imposed some restrictions on constructions in Kowdiar, which is designated as a ‘conservation zone’. Hence it’s difficult to plan large-scale construction projects.
As per the guidelines, only single-family residential buildings can be permitted. Besides, no underground floor is allowed and total storeys shall not exceed two. The overall height of the building should not exceed nine metres. Exterior walls should be painted with white or off-white colours.
