The District Tourism Department is planning to Ponmudi Hills in Trivandrum as an adventure tourism destination. Already the DTPC has come up with a comprehensive plan to develop the site connecting Kallar, Mangayam water falls, Brymore and Tropical Botanical garden.Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said there was ample scope for adventure tourism at Ponmudi.
The adventure zone consist of a children’s park, zip lane, mountain climbing and even mountain biking.

Restrooms will be built at Upper Sanatorium on the lines of the eco-friendly model adopted by Meghalaya. Plans are afoot to introduce a ropeway to Ponmudi.
“At present tourists do not have the facility to spend a day at Upper Sanatorium. They are forced to return after a brief visit. This should change. The projects will be eco-friendly and will conform to the forest conservation rules,” said the minister in a release.
For safety and security, a police station will be set up at Upper Sanatorium. Women police personnel will be deployed at Ponmudi round the clock to help women in distress.
The plan is to attract more number of tourists to Ponmudi during the summer season. The site was visited by tourism minister along with Forest Minister K Raju to study the infrastructure facilities needed to develop the spot as an adventure tourism destination.The project will be implemented with the help from Forest Department and the financial assistance will be provided by the department of Tourism.
