The masterplan aimed at the comprehensive development of Trivandrum Medical College will equip the campus with most modern medical instruments and facilities including many new complexes all in an environment-friendly way.
The government has come up with a Rs400 masterplan to upgrade Trivandrum Medical College into a world class hospital and medical research centre.
The masterplan aimed at the comprehensive development of Trivandrum Medical College will equip the campus with most modern medical instruments and facilities including many new complexes all in an environment-friendly way. The masterplan is designed in such a way to include development opportunities coming in the 25 years.
Problems face by Medical College Campus is very complicated
Trivandrum Medical College campus contains not just one institution but many. SAT Hospital, RCC Trivandrum, Nursing College, Pharmacy College, DME office etc are situated on this campus. Narrow roads and high people density are choking the whole campus. People are not able to reach the campus in time due to traffic congestions. The new master plan will help to solve all these problems.
Skywalks, Underpasses, facelift of all buildings
Facelift starts from all the entrance points with all gates having a spectacular design. All the buildings and blocks in the campus will don a uniform colour and design. Apart from these there will maps, signboards and other facilities to help people navigate the vast campus. There will also be skywalk bridges and underpasses so that people can go to different buildings without facing the messy traffic or bad weather. Wide and uniformly paved footpaths will be constructed along the roads for the pedestrians to walk safely.
Parking space for 1300 cars along with multi-level parking buildings
Parking facility will be improved by increasing the capacity to park 1300 cars. There will be multi-level parking buildings where 300 cars can be parked at a time and also open parking lots where 700 vehicles can be parked. At present parking, your vehicle is a challenge and a matter of luck at Medical College. The main entrance will only be used as a way in and the vehicles leaving the campus will have to go through 6 way out gates. This will hugely decrease the traffic congestion currently faced by the Medical College junction.
Truly a green campus with 5-acre beautiful park
The masterplan will also transform the medical college into a truly green campus. In the 5 acre land, a beautiful park with big trees will be set up. There will be state-of-the-art waste treatment plant for solving the garbage crisis. Rain water harvesting facility and solar power generation plants will also be installed at the campus. Hygienic toilets will be built and there will also be clean laundry facility for the patients and bystanders.
So how soon this is going to happen?
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that government will soon approve the master plan and KIIFB will be entrusted to rope in the funds. The masterplan was designed under the leadership of architect G.Shankar and also with the help of Medical College Alumni Association.
