The long-standing demand of film enthusiasts to have a permanent venue for hosting International Film Festival of Kerala is finally going to be fulfilled. A permanent venue for IFFK was announced in the budget presented by finance minister Thomas Isaac.

A theatre complex will be setup on two acres of government land in Kazhakootam. For this, an amount of Rs50 core has been allotted in the latest state budget. According to reports, many private companies have already shown interest in the proposal.

As of now, films are screened in 10 theatres during the festival forcing the delegates to move from venues to venues.

During December, the theatre complex will be handed over to Film Academy to host the film festival and during other times, the associated private company can screen other films.  A mini theatre will be exclusively given to the Film Academy to conduct their programmes.
