RKV lane to be transformed into a beautiful tourism-friendly stretch!

Parking of heavy vehicles will be prohibited and parking will be restricted to light vehicles.

If all goes well, RKV lane, the road leading to Sooryakanthi Fair Ground will soon transform into a tourism-friendly zone.

Currently, RKV lane which is situated between Museum Police Station and Kanakakkunnu Palace is in a dire state due to haphazard parking and cluttered tea shops. The road is in a dilapidated condition and there are no street lights to bring life to the area.

Once the project gets implemented, Trivandrumites will get a new place to spend their evenings.

Fortunately, that all going to change. The district tourism promotion council (DTPC) has asked for the custody of the RKV lane from the Trivandrum city corporation to transform it into a tourism-friendly zone. The welfare standing committee chairman Palayam Rajan said that the civic body was very positive about the project.

The components of the proposal include renovation of the road stretch, rehabilitation of traders, drainage and electrification and providing organised parking in the stretch. Once the road is handed over, DTPC will maintain the stretch using the funds raised from parking and advertisements. Stalls would be set up for rehabilitating vendors a rent will be collected from them. Parking of heavy vehicles will be prohibited and parking will be restricted to light vehicles. Only limited and organised parking would be allowed on the lane.

It is learnt that District tourism promotion council would not be interested in pumping in money to give a makeover for the stretch without the civic body transferring custody.

Once the project gets implemented, Trivandrumites will get a new place to spend their evenings.
