Sachin Tendulkar bags Kochi franchise of Indian Super League

Other high profile bidders include former India captain Sourav Ganguly who bagged the Kolkata franchise

#EnteKochi: Sachin Tendulkar has always been an inspiration for millions of cricket fans all over the world. Now the batting legend has become the hope for some young sports enthusiasts, this time from football and that too in Kerala.

Sachin Tendulkar has won bid for the Kochi franchise of the much-anticipated Indian Super League (ISL) which will be held in September-October. Tendulkar bagged the Kochi franchise along with PVP Ventures who has presence in real estate, media and entertainment and also owns Hyderabad Hotshots the inaugural Indian Badminton League champion team. IMG-Reliance announced the winners of the bids for eight franchises in lucrative Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament that is set to take Indian football by storm.

Other high profile bidders include former India captain Sourav Ganguly who bagged the Kolkata franchise and many Bollywood actors including Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan and John Abraham. The eight cities who have made the cut are Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Goa, and Guwahati. The two-month tournament will be played in September. Earlier a group of young footbal enthusiasts from Kerala, under the banner of World Malayalee Football Fans Association, has begun a social media campaign in favour of Sachin Tendulkar bidding for the Kochi franchise in the Indian Super League football tournament.

Many believe that Tendulkar’s bid for Kochi franchise in ISL will revive football in Kerala, which was once a nursery of Indian football and provider of several national level players.
