Now Self-Driven Cars and Bike On Rent Available in Trivandrum and Kochi!

The special permit vehicles will have a black registration number plates with yellow alphanumeric characters. Other commercial vehicles have been using yellow number plates with alphanumerical characters in black. The special number plates for commercial vehicles would be issued by Motor Vehicles Department. A similar system is already in use in Goa for years where tourists can rent two-wheelers on rent for sight-seeing.

Private companies which provide taxi services have already begun registering vehicles for such special permits in Trivandrum and Ernakulam RTO offices.

The first batch of 51 cars have been launched in Kochi last week and the vehicles will hit the streets of Trivandrum next week.

MVD is registering vehicles under the ‘Rent-a-Motorcycle’ and ‘Rent-a-Car schemes. To register a vehicle under this scheme, the owner should have a minimum of five motorcycles, while a car operator should have 50 cars.
