Sony hasn’t specified the exact release date but they have confirmed that it will be available in time for the 2013 holiday season.
After weeks of speculation, Sony finally unveiled its next generation gaming console -PlayStation 4 at an event in New York. According to Sony, PS4 is a “supercharged PC” with the ability to effortlessly share interactive experiences, by instantly broadcasting video of gaming action to friends online.”
Sony’s Andrew House said the new console will create “experiences that surpass gamers’ wildest expectations.”
Play station 4 is powered by an 8-core 64-bit x86 “Jaguar” CPU developed by AMD and a Radeon GPU that can juggle more tasks than the PlayStation 3. It has 8GB of RAM memory and has a local hard drive. PS4 uses APU technology and GDDR5 memory, which is typically reserved for “top of the line, high end graphics cards.”
Share Like Never Before
Playstation 4 supports suspending and reloading play sessions. The console has a secondary chip for uploading and downloading in the background. Meaning digital games can be played while they are being downloaded. Playstation 4 support seamless uploads of game play and can view friends’ game play sessions in real time as well as integrated chat. You can have profiles pages like Facebook. PlayStation 4 offers personalization and will “get to know you.”
Updated DualShock 4 Controller
Sony also unveiled the new Playstation4 controller – the Dual Shock 4. Six-axis controls return in the Dual Shock 4, as do the familiar array of face/shoulder buttons and direction inputs. The new features include a capacitive touch pad on the front of the device, which can register two points of contact at a time. There is also a light bar on top of the controller and redesigned analog sticks. However it has no start button.
Playstation 4 Eye camera
Sony also improved its new Playstation 4 Eye camera, a log-like improvement over the single-lensed PlayStation Eye camera that currently exists on PS3. The PS4 Eye has two high-sensitive cameras that have wide-angle lenses with 85-degree diagonal angle views which can recognize the depth of space precisely. The PlayStation 4 will let people create animation in 3-D using a Move motion controller — all in real time.
Other features of the Playstation 4 includes a Blu-ray drive that spins game discs a brisk 6X and 8X for DVDs, 802.11n Wi-Fi capability, USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 2.1 and ports for optical audio, HDMI and even legacy analog AV hook-ups.
