Now, the city of Thiruvananthapuram is more than a cultural Centre. The capital city is increasingly becoming a perfect destination for visitors in India. And because of the rising number of visitors, the State tourism department and DTPC (district tourism promotion council) planning to give a major revamp to different destinations in the land. If completed successfully in time the tourism sector in the capital city will witness a facelift in 2018.
As part of the projects, the tourist spots are likely to become disabled friendly. More solar street lights to be introduced in Veil tourist village and the swimming pools and public parks will also likely to witness a renovation in the New Year.
The project focuses on smooth access to the disabled people and makes more places like Shanghumugham Park, Tsunami Park, Chaha Nehru Park, Veli tourist village, Akkulam children’s park, Kanakakkunnu Park, Vellar and Vizhinjam art and craft village, Kovalam beach, Museum Nishagandhi complex to become disabled friendly.

The maintenance works related to this solar lights will be handled by the respective company itself for the first five years. The budget expected for renovating the swimming pool and park in Levi tourist village is RS 2.5 crore. The work is to be done by WAPCOS (water and power consultancy services limited)
Not just tourism spots, public places will also be made barrier-free. The tourism department also has their eyes set on launching E-toilets in every corner of the city.
