The age old CP Sathram will be demolished and a parking area will be constructed.
The existing prepaid counter will be moved to the newly developed area which is of 10,000sq.ft. When the new counters are operational around 60 auto-rickshaws can be parked in queue. Right now only 20 auto-rickshaws can be parked at a time.
Premium Parking Facility
Trivandrum Central Railway station will also offer premium parking facility to its commuters. The premium parking facility on the Central station premises would be for short-time parking and for those who were ready to pay more. By January, there will be a new pre-paid taxi service at Trivandrum Central.
There will also be an executive lounge on the land acquired by demolishing the CP Sathram. These Executive lounges will provide airport lounge-like facilities to the passengers. The lounge will provide a string of airport-like facilities, including wash and change, Wi-Fi, Internet, Live TV, music channels, buffet services, newspaper/bookstand, luggage racks, shoe shiner, train information system etc. Two more escalators will come up at Trivandrum Central in addition to two lifts at the station.
For easy entry and exit, six gates will be present. Two at Kollam direction and two at Nagarcoil Direction. Right now there is only 2 entry points at the station which is inadequate during rush hour. Apart from these, there will also be a huge LED information display board which shows arrival and departure details of trains.
Once all these projects gets completed, Trivandrum Railway Station will be on par with that of Airport.
