Trivandrum Technopark to go Wi-Fi

At present Wi-Fi is available only within individual companies and it is only accessible to their employees.

Soon to become the largest IT Park in the Country, Technopark is getting ready to setup an ‘Open i space and data farm‘ to ensure Wi-Fi connectivity across the entire campus.

The Wi-Fi connectivity of 8 GB spreading across the entire campus and a high end data centre will be setup at an estimated cost of Rs.75 Lakhs. The project will come up in three to four months. Technopark authorities are expecting to get the grant from the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB).

“The Wi-Fi plan has been in the works for a while now, in continuation of our overall plan to ensure Technopark retains its status as the premier IT destination and also in a bid to make certain Technopark maintain its standing as the greenest IT park in the country,” says M. Vasudevan, Senior Manager, Business Development at Technopark.

At present Wi-Fi is available only within individual companies and it is only accessible to their employees.

“We plan to set up 8GB connectivity outside the four walls of the companies, especially in common areas such as food courts, Park Centre, the guest house, Technopark club house. It does not require much effort on our part and hopefully it should be up and running within the next six months, may be even less,” adds Vasudevan.

The Data Farm which is superior to spatial data centre will be able to provide data storage facility to all IT companies operating in Technopark. This facility can be extended to other companies operating in Kochi and Calicut in the second phase. Currently, IT companies depend on servers in the US and Germany for data storage and the cost of data storage are high. With the new Data Farm, companies will be able to get data storage facility at a much lower cost.
