The Life Sciences Park that spread across 260 acres in <strong>Veiloor Village near Thonnakkal<\/strong> would be designed to accommodate companies of all sizes. The park will become a knowledge hub focusing on areas like Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Chemo-informatics, Pharmacogenomics, Clinical informatics, Molecular modelling, Bio-engineering, Bio-simulation etc.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Department of Biotechnology is willing to offer Rs 15 crore for the project.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Deliberations are on with the Singapore authorities so that the Life Science Park here could be modelled on the lines of the Science Park there. Business incubation facilities for value addition will also form part of the project. Discussions are on with architects, designers and planners.&#8221; said Tom Jose, Managing Director of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC)<\/p>\n<p>The work on the project will start within 2 months. Life Sciences Park will also contain an Incubation Centre (IC) and a Technology Development Centre (TDC). The Incubation Centre will provide basic infrastructure to bio-tech firms and will help them for a period of 3 years to become self-sustainable till they generate revenue. While Technology Development Centre (TDC) will facilitate start-ups, small and medium IT companies and entrepreneurs, to develop innovative products for competing in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Six leading research centres in the state will offer scientific assistance to the incubatees. The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) will support in molecular biology and drug discovery, Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in advanced biotech-based cancer therapy, National Institute of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Technology (NIST) in bio-resource and microbial technology, Sri Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCT-IMST) in medical biotech, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) in agri-biotech, natural extracts for health drinks and tropical Botanical Garden Research Institute (TBGRI) in natural extract based pharmaceutical products.<\/p>\n<p>The Life Sciences Park, when functional, would be geographic cluster of industry, research institutions and sci-tech academia and would address the IT related needs of the rapidly emerging life sciences industry<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The proposed Life Sciences Park in Trivandrum will be modelled on the Singapore Science Park (SSP).
