Kerala pacer Sreesanth and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested by the Delhi Police and charged with spot-fixing in the on-going IPL match<\/strong>. The police had also arrested seven bookies in Mumbai and three in Delhi in connection with the same case.<\/p>\n

The Delhi police’s special cell arrested Sreesanth from his friend’s house in Mumbai while the other two players were arrested on Wednesday night from the team hotel at Nariman Point .The arrest took place immediately after the players returned to their hotel, after their match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium. They will be brought to Delhi to be produced in court.<\/p>\n

According to the TV reports players were even involved in spot fixing in Rajasthan Royals’ match with Mumbai Indians on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium. The special cell of the Delhi police, found the evidence by tapping phones of several cricketers and bookies. The Delhi Police also said that the arrests were part of an investigation conducted over months.<\/p>\n

Rajasthan Royals express shock about player’s arrest in a statement<\/p>\n

“We have been informed that three of our players have been called in for investigation on spot fixing in matches. We are completely taken by surprise. We do not have the full facts at this point and are unable to confirm anything. We are in touch with the BCCI on this matter. We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The management at Rajasthan Royals has a zero-tolerance approach to anything that is against the spirit of the game,” the team statement said.<\/p>\n

Spot-fixing refers to an illegal activity within sport where a specific part of a game is fixed.<\/p>\n
