The new scheme will address not only the safety concerns of women but also the issues such as economic independence and gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>The new scheme is aimed at women who are required to travel outside regular hours, often alone, by nature of jobs. The Women-only taxis will be driven by Women drivers and men are not allowed to use the service. <strong>Kudumbasree will buy Nano cars<\/strong>, with customised features to ensure the safety of the women driver. These taxis will be given special colours and the emblem of the SHG for easier identification. The service will be focused on Technopark, bus stand and railway stations.<\/p>\n<p>All the taxis will be equipped with GPS system to track its location from a central unit. The car will have electronic billing system and a partition between the front and rear seats to ensure the driver&#8217;s safety. A call centre will be setup so that any woman requiring the &#8216;Women-only&#8217; Taxi can get the service. At first women-only taxi service will be available from morning to 8Pm. In the second phase, the service will be extended round the clock.<\/p>\n<p>Nano Cars were chosen after considering several factors like space required for parking and economic viability. The &#8216;<strong>Women-Only&#8217; Taxi project<\/strong> is planned on an entrepreneurial model, with assistance from bank for funding.
