{"id":10520,"date":"2013-05-17T14:48:49","date_gmt":"2013-05-17T09:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=10520"},"modified":"2013-05-17T14:48:49","modified_gmt":"2013-05-17T09:18:49","slug":"natural-history-museum-in-trivandrum-renovated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/natural-history-museum-in-trivandrum-renovated\/","title":{"rendered":"Natural History Museum in Trivandrum Renovated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018<strong>International Museum Day<\/strong>\u2019 is on Saturday and the Natural History Museum in Trivandrum is all set to celebrate the day by taking its visitors to a journey around the world and through time. <em>Natural History Museum<\/em> in Trivandrum houses some of the oldest things on the planet from million year old fossils to full sized stuffed animals.<\/p>\n<p>To attract visitors, <strong>authorities have setup 10 feet high Dinosaurs in front of the museum.<\/strong> Different signs and beautiful posters will be placed along the way towards the museum. The Museum was closed for renovation for some months. As part of the renovation, state-of-the-art systems have been installed in the museum to assist the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The visitors will be offered an \u2018experience\u2019 with the help of latest audio visual facilities. Modern lighting system and beautiful flooring will bring a world class look to the Natural History Museum. One can see stuffed animals in their natural habitat. The museum also has a display of fossils some of which are over 2 crore years old. A rare type of fossil called the &#8216;Petrified wood&#8217; (fossil remains of trees) is also on display.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To implement innovative ideas and to reduce the huge expense, the Museum should follow European model of micro museum&#8221; says lead Consultant Archaeologist and Museologist R.Chandran Pillai.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Natural History Museum opened in 1885,<\/strong> houses a diverse and rich collection of ethnographic pieces. There are separate galleries for the Mammals, birds, vertebrates, invertebrates and skeletons. A library and a laboratory also form the part of the museum. There is also an Ethnology Gallery which provides valuable insight into the different races of mankind.<\/p>\n<p>International Museum Day coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) is held worldwide sometime around May 18 since 1977.
