Trivandrum district administration and the city police, has issued guidelines to ensure the safety of children in school buses and other private vehicles carrying children to schools. Recent road accidents involving school students and pre-schoolers pushed the authorities to frame safety measures aimed at the benefit of thousands of students.<\/p>\n

The police had asked the school authorities to obtain fitness certificates for all buses, including the private vehicles carrying students. The police also have plans to introduce other safety measures such as conducting awareness classes for drivers on road safety. Parents and staff of the schools will also be given awareness on safety by the Sub-Inspectors.<\/p>\n

City Police Commissioner, P Vijayan<\/strong> said that parents should be present at the time of pick-up or drop-off each day or assign a responsible adult, especially for kindergarten students. He also said that every parent should have close contact with the school authorities and should bring to the notice of police officers if anything goes wrong.<\/p>\n

  • An \u2018ON SCHOOL DUTY\u2019 display sign should be placed in private vehicles carrying school students.<\/li>\n
  • School buses should have a ‘Speed governor’ which is set at 40 km per hour.<\/li>\n
  • Drivers caught more than one time for violating traffic rules should not be appointed.<\/li>\n
  • Maximum number of students in cars should be nine and in autos five.<\/li>\n
  • There should be a separate facility for keeping school bags of children inside the bus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
