The widening of the road will decongest the area, ensuring smooth flow of traffic.<\/p>\n<p>According to the project the busy Pazhavangady-Attakulangara stretch of the MG road will be widened and reconstructed as per world-class standards to accommodate 6-lane traffic. Existing bus terminal at East Fort will be demolished for road widening and two new bus bays will be constructed. Demolishing the existing bus terminal and relocating the shops located close to the fort wall to the north and south of the entrance will give a new look to the east fort monument and the much-needed restoration work of the fort wall can be carried out.<\/p>\n<p>The road development work can begin once the shops are evicted. \u201cThe much-needed restoration of the cross drain leading from Pazhavangady to the Thekkanamkara drainage canal can be taken up only after that. A 240-metre long drain has to be constructed. The choked drain is believed to be the primary cause for flooding in the East Fort area,\u201d an official said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the state government has given the go-signal to handover the two acres of land of the Central High School in Attakkulangara, to TRIDA on 30-year lease for the construction of a bus bay-cum-shopping complex. The project will cost an estimated amount of Rs 20 crore. The complex that can house 250 commercial shops will rehabilitate the 75 traders who were evicted for the construction of the Melepazhavangady -Thakaraparambu flyover and the 50 traders who will be evicted for widening the Pazhavangady-Attakkulangara road<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>East Fort, a major hub of city bus operations will get a facelift by the City Road Improvement Project (CRIP) that is entering its last phase.
