The inaugural service will cover Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam district and Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha district. The state aims to connect at least 25 tourist destinations under the service. In the first phase, it plans to connect Ashtamudi, Punnamada, Vembanad lakes and the backwaters of Kochi and Kottappuram.<\/p>\n
Houseboats would serve as terminals at the landing and take-off sites with lounges for tourists. Already Water-dromes have been setup at Ashtamudi, Punnamada, Kumarakom, and Bekal. Water-drome at Bolgatty Island will be set up after the Navy gives its clearance. \u00a0Seaplane operations will have airports in Trivandrum, Kochi, Kozhikode, and Mangalore as its base stations. An average flight of 30-40 minutes\u2019 duration is likely to cost about Rs.4,000.<\/p>\n
Bengaluru-based aviation company, Kairali Aviation will run the project which is based on a Zero Subsidy – Open Sky Policy. The seaplanes will fly roughly 6,500 feet above ground providing panoramic views of the lush green Kerala landscape.
