Visitors who come to the zoo will soon be under the surveillance of cameras, as Museum authorities are gearing up to install security cameras in zoo premises. The security cameras will cover areas spanning from the entrance to the animal enclosures.<\/p>\n
The cameras are intended mainly to spot those who pester the animals or feed them and also litter the premises with plastic and other prohibited items. The decision was taken, after an incident when some miscreants entered the animal enclosures and also tried to feed the animals with food items and plastic materials. Last year two hyenas had died after consuming plastic hose and though the authorities prohibited plastic materials inside the zoo, it was not found to be effective. Zoo authorities believe that installation of surveillance camera will prevent such incidents in the future.<\/p>\n
17 cameras costing around Rs1crore are going to be installed in places like ticket counter, the zoo entrance and near the enclosures of aggressive and dangerous animals like lion, leopard, tiger etc. For the purpose of monitoring pregnant animals and to study how they take care of their newborns, night vision cameras are being employed. It has come to the notice of zoo authorities that some anti-social elements are using the zoo premises for their illegal activities such as smoking and drinking liquor.
