To gear more corporate social responsibility activity Airports Authority of India (AAI)<\/strong> has gifted a modern fish market to the Trivandrum City<\/strong> Corporation at Perunnelli, near Muttathara.<\/p>\n

The modern fish market which spreads over 650 square feet has replaced the open fish market and is set up almost in the middle of the approach path of the runway of the Trivandrum international airport. The old market was functioning in an unorganised manner and as the solid waste disposed openly was resulting in bird menace which causes a potential threat to the aircrafts.<\/p>\n

“The covered fish market serves the twin purpose of empowerment of the underprivileged and an effort to mitigate the bird menace on the approach path of the runway” says Airport Director V. N. Chandran.<\/p>\n

The new fish market built at a cost of Rs50-lakh can accommodate 60 vendors. Drinking water, a three-stage treatment plant, biogas plant, toilet, washing area, tube well and a maintenance store have been provided in the new market. The biogas plant in the market can handle 100 kg of waste everyday and can generate electricity to keep the market open even during night. An area of 19.88Sq.M has been earmarked for the 40 vendors who sell vegetables in the market.<\/p>\n

The market was commissioned by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor in the presence of Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar, and Mayor K. Chandrika.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
