T.A Radhakrishnan, from Peyad and his family were in for a surprise when they saw their pet dog\u2019s mouth glow in the dark, like a fluorescent paint. Though the family was unable to find the cause of this ‘sorcery’, later they found that it was the fish that they used in the evening. The leftover of the fish were put in a plastic bucket and the dog ate some of it.<\/p>\n
To clear the air, Radhakrishnan inspected the remaining fish that was in the refrigerator and found that inside of it was also glowing in the dark. The fishes were bought two days ago from the Thirumala Market. The family informed the Food Safety officials and the samples have been sent to the lab for detailed analysis. The officials said that, formalin and other chemicals used to preserve the fish caused the glowing phenomenon. They also said that many similar complaints have been received.<\/p>\n
It is believed that the fishes brought from other states have been treated with hazardous chemicals including formalin. Chemicals like formalin and ammonia were used to preserve fish brought in career vehicles without air-conditioning systems. The volume of fish brought from Thoothukudi and Mangalore\u00a0has been considerably increased recently after the state faced with decreased fish catch from its coast. The authorities are not taking any steps to ensure the quality of these fishes which are sold wholesale at the Pangode fish market.<\/p>\n
It’s not just the fish. Meat products, milk, vegetables and other grocery items also contain dangerous chemicals. These days adulteration of food is becoming extremely rampant. It’s unfortunate that, even though numerous complaints have been raised, the food officials and concerned departments are reluctant to take any action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
