For the people living in the coastal areas, the rainy season is an endless nightmare. With the arrival of the monsoon the situation in the coastal areas between Beemapalli and Valiyathura has turned worse with more houses being washed away by the sea.<\/p>\n

Several houses were partially damaged and many trees were uprooted in the rain. At Shanghumugham Beach, the waves had reached till the road and one can see the waters invading a good portion of the beach. A portion of the coastline near Valiyathura Bridge was also washed away in the heavy rain.<\/p>\n

According to the local people, the absence of a sea-wall is making the area vulnerable to the vagaries of the sea. Meanwhile, the authorities opened a relief camp at Valiyathura Government St Antony\u2019s UP School for as many as 60 families who are most affected. Officials said that if needed, more camps would be opened in the coastal areas.<\/p>\n

With the sea turning rougher every day, the residents have no place to go but risk losing their lives in these crumbling huts.<\/p>\n
