Google\u2019s balloon internet project called the Project Loon<\/strong> is one of Google\u2019s famed moonshots. It created a stir all over the world when the project was launched in New Zealand. Due to success of the project, Google<\/a> had decided to carry Project Loon<\/a> to other countries and it seems like India might be one of the lucky ones.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Project Loon coming to India?<\/h2>\n

\u201cA number of countries, including India, have expressed interest in implementing the project,” Todd Rowe, managing director of global channel sales at Google, told reporters. \u00a0“Depending on the results of this pilot project, we will be able to implement it in other countries,” he added. He also said that there was no time-frame to implement ‘Project Loon’ in India<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Google launched the Project Loon in New Zealand with an aim to improve internet connectivity and providing network in remote areas. The helium-filled balloons floating 20 km above earth in the stratosphere will carry Internet signal antennas and will provide connectivity by acting as a hub for users. The balloons are fitted with solar panels for harnessing solar energy. They are carried around by winds but can be steered by raising or lowering them to a particular altitude. They are being controlled by a specialised Loon Mission Control in New Zealand. When it comes to speed, Google claims that connection speeds will be comparable to typical 3G access<\/strong> provided by cellular networks.<\/p>\n
