The government decided to implement the\u00a0\u00a0 scheme on the basis of a study carried out by M\/s Deloitte TT (I) under World Bank funding.<\/p>\n<p>Already six consultants had been shortlisted on the basis of the 29 Expressions of Interest (EOI) received. The multimodal hub, mooted by the <strong>PWD<\/strong>, is aimed at improving connectivity and accessibility. Thereby reducing traffic congestion and enhancing the service of roads.\u00a0 The new transport system will ensure a free and safe movement of goods and passengers. It will also help to decongest the roads, which are now choked due to an increase in vehicle population.<\/p>\n<p>A Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS), intelligent transport systems, pedestrian foot over-bridges and subways at select locations, single ticketing system and a multi-level parking at railway and bus stations had also been proposed along with the plan. Setting up of a <strong>United Metropolitan Transport Authority<\/strong> to regulate the transport system in the state had been recommended.<\/p>\n<p>Co-ordinating key department involved in inland water, rail, and air transport would pose a major challenge the government.
