{"id":11770,"date":"2013-06-30T02:47:04","date_gmt":"2013-06-29T21:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=11770"},"modified":"2013-06-30T02:47:04","modified_gmt":"2013-06-29T21:17:04","slug":"muttathara-sewage-treatment-plant-ready-for-commissioning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/muttathara-sewage-treatment-plant-ready-for-commissioning\/","title":{"rendered":"Muttathara Sewage treatment plant ready for commissioning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After being bogged down by the slow pace of work, the much-awaited <a title=\"Sewage plant at Muttathara nearing completion\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/sewage-plant-at-muttathara-nearing-completion\/\"><strong>Muttathara sewage treatment plant<\/strong> <\/a>will be commissioned today. \u00a0The modern sewage treatment plant which spreads over 36 acres of land is located near the old sewage plant at Muttathara.<\/p>\n<p>The Rs 80-crore project, funded by <strong>Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission<\/strong>, will address the ongoing sewage problem faced by the city and is expected to prevent the pollution of water bodies. According to officials, though the original capacity of the plant is 107 million litres per day (mld), only 42mld of sewage will reach the plant from the core areas of the city. Within 2 years sewage from other areas of the city will be processed at the plant.<\/p>\n<p>The plant treats the sewage water using the <strong>&#8216;Activate Sludge Process<\/strong>&#8216;. A final assessment of the efficiency of the plant can be done only after the formation of sludge in the sewage that has been collected, an official said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bacteria that would decompose the waste in the sewage water will take time to grow. It will take at least 30 days for the sludge to from,&#8221; an official said.<\/p>\n<p>When the plant gets fully functional the unscientific practice of disposing city\u2019s sewage into Parvathy Puthanar will be stopped. The sewage water will be treated by the plant and after purification it will be diverted to Parvathy Puthanar.
