While only 14 families are being compensated now, the rest 200 families will soon get compensation. An additional Rs.66 crore has been earmarked for this.<\/p>\n<p>The first to get the cheque of Rs. 24.26 lakh as compensation was T. V. Ramanathan. A total of Rs2.70 crore was distributed as compensation. The government needs Rs. 316 crore to pay up compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the widening of the <strong>29.2-km<\/strong> Karamana-Kaliyikkavila stretch would be included in the <strong>Rs.10,000-crore<\/strong> road development project worked out to develop 21 roads on annuity basis. No toll would be collected on the stretch. In addition to the Rs 100 crore from the Rs 400-crore infrastructure fund, an additional amount of Rs. 7.70 crore had been allocated in the budget for the four-laning.<\/p>\n<p>In view of the proposed<strong><a title=\"Vizhinjam project takes another leap\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/vizhinjam-project-takes-another-leap\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Vizhinjam International Container Transhipment Terminal<\/a><\/strong> and the Monorail, the four-laning of the stretch will ease traffic congestion in the southern region of the district. The 12-km stretch from <strong>Karamana to Vazhimukku<\/strong> would be taken up in the first phase of the project. The width of the road will be 30.2 metres and the medians on the carriageway would also be increased from 1.5 metres to 3 metres in view of the proposed monorail up to Neyyattinkara.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has started giving compensation to those who give up their land for the widening of Karamana-Kaliyikkavila National highway.
