Gradually the Trivandrum City as we know today which includes East Fort, Secretariat, Museum and all those nearby areas will be turned into \u2018Heritage Trivandrum\u2019<\/strong> and a \u2018New Trivandrum\u2019<\/strong> which follow the lines of Navi Mumbai will come up in the outskirts of the current city. In the near future, people coming into the City can see high rise buildings and apartments on either sides of the IT Corridor.<\/p>\n When the Vizhinjam Port Project is completed, it will become the largest port in India capable of handling the biggest 18,000 TEU Triple-E class container ships. The estimated cost for the first phase alone is Rs.3, 840 crore. Around 40% of the vessels with Indian cargo land in Colombo, Singapore and Malaysia ports and once Vizhinjam becomes operational this huge cargo can be offloaded here. At present, India’s port capacity (12 major Indian ports) is a meagre 4.61 million TEUs\/annum, but Vizhinjam Port alone will have the capacity of 4.10 million TEU\/annum. Vizhinjam Project will boost Kerala and India’s economy manifold.<\/p>\n Trivandrum is also a place famous for its natural beauty. Two of the internationally famous tourist places –Kovalam<\/strong> and Varkala<\/strong> are located here and the new ‘Visa on Arrival<\/a>‘ (VOA) service at the Airport will ensure a significant boost in foreign tourist arrivals.
