In this scheme an auto-rickshaw is shared by three or four passengers travelling on the same route, thereby saving money, fuel and also reducing pollution. Share Auto is a poplar system in metros like <strong>Mumbai, Chennai<\/strong> and <strong>Hyderabad.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Janamaitri meeting, the city police commissioner <strong>P. Vijayan<\/strong> said that the police was actively considering the idea and about how to convince the public and auto-rickshaw operators of the benefits of such a system. Women will benefit more from the scheme because they will be much safer,&#8221; the commissioner said.<\/p>\n<p>However, autorickshaw drivers&#8217; unions are against the scheme. Motor Workers Union (AITUC) general secretary <strong>Pattom Sasidharan<\/strong> said that, in cities where share-auto system has been successfully operating, specific areas were given to rickshaws in major junctions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no specific auto stand or space demarcated for autorickshaws here. This has forced the rickshaw drivers to keep driving. If share-an-auto scheme is introduced without addressing this issue, an entire transport system will fail,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Unions also demanded clear norms, including routes, fare, types of vehicle, etc before launching the scheme.\u00a0 Police officials are planning to introduce separate designation or colour code to share autos and allotting linear parking space slightly away from congested points to solve the issues raised by the unions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The city police are considering the possibilities of \u2018Share Auto\u2019 system in Trivandrum.
