{"id":12424,"date":"2013-07-19T15:11:48","date_gmt":"2013-07-19T09:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=12424"},"modified":"2013-08-07T10:25:55","modified_gmt":"2013-08-07T04:55:55","slug":"another-twin-city-project-for-trivandrum-on-the-anvil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/another-twin-city-project-for-trivandrum-on-the-anvil\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Twin city project for Trivandrum on the anvil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2010, Union Minster Shashi Tharoor proposed to make <strong>Barcelona city<\/strong> in Spain the <strong>&#8216;Twin-City&#8217; of Trivandrum.<\/strong> However the proposal pushed into oblivion as Trivandrum Corporation was against the Twin-city concept.<\/p>\n<p>Now after three years, it seems like Trivandrum may enter into a Twin-City agreement, but this time it\u2019s not Barcelona, its <strong>Stavropol<\/strong> in Russia. Stavropol is the capital city of <strong>Stavropol Krai<\/strong>, an administrative division in south-west Russia. Russian Cultural Centre will submit proposals to both mayors of the two cities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consul of the Russian Federation<\/strong> expressed their wish to develop a healthy regional cooperation between cities in the two countries. Mayor K. Chandrika has invited the representatives to explain the prospects of an alliance between Trivandrum and Stavropol.<\/p>\n<p>Stavropol is famous for its medical mineral springs and health spa resorts \u2013 a trait it shares with Kerala as foreign tourists from all over the world come here for the Ayurveda treatment. The local administrative systems of Russia and India are different. For instance Mayor in Russia is almost as powerful as a Chief Minister here.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of Twin-City agreement started again when Kochi made progress in linking with a city called<strong> Pyatigorsk<\/strong>. The Russian Cultural Centre has also organized a visit to Thrissur to link the city of <strong>Essenthuki<\/strong> with Thrissur.
