A newcomer on the scene- Bahie<\/a>, is a boutique which is different as it brings together traditional craftsmanship of various states under one roof<\/strong>. Bahie is the realization of\u00a0 a dream shared by four friends Binish Chandran<\/strong>, Sanidha Antony,<\/strong> Ann Sariga<\/strong>, and Mathew Cherian<\/strong>. Bahie in Arabic means beautiful which is the hallmark of the boutique.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople always want to look their best and they pay maximum attention to their attire. So we thought why not open a boutique which is exclusive and at the same time affordable.”<\/em> says Mathew Cherian.<\/p>\n

Bahie is located right in the heart of Trivandrum City at Nanthencode<\/strong> near Holy Angels School. An array of products such as contemporary-crafted designer wear, handcrafted jewellery, wrapping stoles and pashminas, Hand worked footwear<\/strong> are beautifully displayed in the boutique. You can take your pick from fabrics like Kashmiri aaris<\/strong>, Punjabi phulkari<\/strong>, Bengali Kantha<\/strong>, deccan ikats<\/strong>, Saurashtra weaving<\/strong>, Rajasthani bagru block printing<\/strong>, southern silk<\/strong> ,and Kerala handlooms<\/strong>. Bahie\u2019s collection uses Indian traditional crafts techniques like Block printing, Pochampally weaving,\u00a0 Colour mixing with tie-n-dye\u2019 techniques and embroidery like zardosi.<\/p>\n

Bahie also specialises in creating bridal dresses according to the taste, specification and budget of the customer<\/strong>. They also have a wide range of affordable daily wears like Kurtis, Churis, Sarees etc. The boutique also has stitching units for ordinary and designer apparels<\/strong>. Designer stitching is done mainly for wedding wear of brides and grooms. Bahie is different from other boutiques in that their designer wears are economical too, contrary to the popular belief that designer wears are highly expensive.<\/p>\n

At Bahie, Binish Chandran and Ann Sariga are engaged in the creative side of the boutique while Mathew Cherian and Sanidha Antony handle the management and marketing of the boutique. Binish who is a graduate from NIFT Hyderabad\u00a0and Ann who graduated from JD Bangalore have known each other for more than 8 years<\/strong>. Ann had worked as costume consultant in many south Indian movies. Earlier, Binish had worked as an associate of designer mentor Praveen Varma<\/strong> for films like Big B<\/strong>, Black<\/strong>, Anwar<\/strong>, Bachelor Party<\/strong> and Sagar Alias Jackey<\/strong>. Recently, he had done\u00a0 independent work as costume designer for the movie 8:20. For years, he wanted to create a design space of his own and started a high end wedding collection at Bangalore. Later he wished to relocate his workspace to Trivandrum. He had discussed with Ann\u2019s Sister Sanidha Antony, owner of Bahie and decided to blend their clothing collection and workspace to produce a crafted contemporary collection. Thus Bahie was born.<\/p>\n

On being quizzed why he decided to break away from costume designing in movies, Binish says he had always dreamed of owning a clothing label of his own. But he has no plans to abandon costume designing and intends to balance both the career paths.<\/p>\n

Mathew who handles the management side belongs to a family engaged in business for generations. He says that it took nine months for the team to materialize their dream, during which they made a thorough analysis\u00a0 of all the aspects of this business.<\/p>\n

Ambience of the boutique is a real visual treat. The boutique is aesthetically designed by the famous Art Director Prathap<\/strong>. The interior is designed keeping in mind the ethic nuances of Indian craft in a subtle way. The colour scheme and design of their creations are also subtle and subtlety forms the signature of Bahie.<\/p>\n
