Tragedy strikes again in Trivandrum and yet another promising life is lost to food poisoning. Rajitha Rajeev, a second year MBBS student at JIPMER, Pondicherry who dined out with her parents at a hotel at Kazhakootam was taken ill on the same day and was admitted to hospital with severe vomiting.<\/p>\n
According to her parents, the food poisoning came from the chicken biriyani she ate on Friday.<\/strong> Her condition worsened and was admitted to Trivandrum Medical College but death occurred yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n Following the incident the food safety authorities visited the hotel and collected samples. They served notice to the hotel owner to shut down the hotel. Last year, a similar tragedy took place when a youth who ate shawarma from a hotel died due to food poisoning.<\/p>\n Subsequently the food safety authority conducted wide spread raids in the hotels of Trivandrum<\/a> and shocking reports of hotels working under extremely unhygienic conditions have been revealed. Even, the largest retail chain KFC<\/a> also came under the scanner, when an incident of finding a live worm in the chicken was reported by a customer.<\/a><\/p>\n It seems that, nobody learns from these mishaps and hotels continue to serve unhealthy food with no regard to the public safety. \u00a0The raids and subsequent punishments prove effective only for a short period and after that nobody cares.
