{"id":12873,"date":"2013-08-02T10:44:41","date_gmt":"2013-08-02T05:14:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=12873"},"modified":"2013-08-02T10:47:06","modified_gmt":"2013-08-02T05:17:06","slug":"suburban-corridor-for-trivandrum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/suburban-corridor-for-trivandrum\/","title":{"rendered":"Suburban corridor and automatic signalling mooted for Trivandrum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To end hardship faced by commuters, a <strong>suburban corridor<\/strong> and automatic signalling have been mooted by the Railways to introduce more trains and <strong>Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMU)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a meet-the-press programme at the Press Club in Trivandrum, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Agrawal said the sub-urban corridor would extend up to<strong> Chengannur<\/strong> or <strong>Kayamkulam<\/strong> or <strong>Haripad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTrivandrum, compared to other districts in the state, is densely populated. The district also has lot of suburban points which demands a better mobility of passengers,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p>Special passenger trains and air-conditioned MEMU services would have to be operated for short-distance commuters. The plan is to run MEMU services on the existing tracks and increase the facilities as per demand. DRM also said that the Railways had submitted a proposal to the government on automatic signalling, which could be justified only for such corridors.<\/p>\n<p>The corridor is envisaged on the lines of the Mumbai Suburban Rail where around 3,000 suburban trains ply every day<strong>. Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC)<\/strong> is undertaking the infrastructure development of Mumbai Suburban Railway system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow it is up to the State Government to write to the MRVC.
