Autorickshaw drivers in the city will soon be given identity cards being issued by the city Corporation. Decision to issue ID cards was taken at a traffic advisory committee convened at the Corporation.<\/p>\n
Keltron is in charge of issuing the ID cards. Once the scheme is implemented, it will help the people to report erring drivers. It will also help the authorities to keep vehicles without permits from entering corporation limits.<\/p>\n
Complaints from passengers about autorickshaw drivers charging heavy fares are increasing day by day. Passengers who arrive at railway station and bus stand are often at the mercy of these overcharging rickshaw drivers. Often passengers have to battle out with these drivers over travelling on the charges shown on the meter. Meanwhile the city traffic police have started to act against auto drivers found fleecing the passengers and also those operating without meters. The violators are fined based on the offence. The amount will vary in each case<\/p>\n
Traffic advisory committee has also decided to construct pre-paid auto counters at Thampanoor and Pettah railway stations. General Hospital was the area initially mooted for the prepaid counter but because of lack of space for setting up a counter, the Corporation decided on Thampanoor.<\/p>\n
Traffic police will also identify regions that could be turned into parking spaces. Since there is a lack of space, large ground for parking is unrealistic and the city corporation is identifying smaller plots for parking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
