{"id":13200,"date":"2013-08-19T21:30:05","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T16:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/?p=13200"},"modified":"2013-08-19T21:30:05","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T16:00:05","slug":"green-signal-for-suburban-rail-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entecity.com\/news\/green-signal-for-suburban-rail-corridor\/","title":{"rendered":"Green signal for Suburban Rail Corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In view of the hardships faced by the ever increasing number of commuters to and from Trivandrum, government has shown green signal to the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/suburban-corridor-for-trivandrum\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Suburban Rail Corridor<\/strong><\/a> proposed by the railways.<\/p>\n<p>Trivandrum Railway Divisional Manager Shri Rajesh Agarwal had earlier submitted the proposal for suburban rail project to the state government. Now the government has accepted the proposal and decided to go ahead with the project which will be a major relief to the daily commuters.<\/p>\n<p>The government has also taken the decision to approach <strong>Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC)<\/strong> for conducting the necessary feasibility study and the suburban rail corridor will be modelled on the lines of MRVC. In the first stage, project will cover <strong>Trivandrum-Cheganoor<\/strong> stretch within two years which will be extended up to <strong>Calicut<\/strong> within four years.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the project is that, unlike metro rail project, the suburban rail corridor can be completed without acquiring a single cent of land. The high rate of urbanisation and escalating number of people depending on railways and the limitation in road development all make the implementation of the project highly desirable in Kerala.<\/p>\n<p>As railways is facing severe financial crunch, it is incumbent upon the state government to source the necessary funds for the project. Automatic signalling system, track maintenance, renovation of railway stations etc are the areas which need attention.<\/p>\n<p>Once the project is completed, it will benefit the whole state.
