O<\/strong>nam is only a week away and shopping fever has already begun for most. Onam season continues to be the ideal time to shop and buy for most of the household and lifestyle needs. There are many trade fairs and exhibitions in the city where you can shop and buy products.<\/p>\n

We have compiled a list of exhibitions and fairs taking place in the city,\u00a0so you can know where to go for shopping.<\/p>\n

Asianet Onam Fair 2013<\/h2>\n

Asianet Satellite Communications is organizing a \u2018Mega Onam Fair\u2019 for the residence of Trivandrum at Thycaud Police Ground. The Onam Fair 2013 includes hundreds of air-conditioned stalls with all range of products and brands with amazing discounts and offers. The stalls include home appliances, kitchen expo, electronics, real estate, FMCG products, handicraft, handloom, health and beauty, gifts, automobile, IT & mobile, furniture, kids, tourism and much more. There is also a lucky dip contest and winners will get exciting prizes. Asianet Onam Fair 2013<\/a> is open on all days will come to an end on 15th September.<\/p>\n

Onam Trade Fair and Exhibition 2013<\/h2>\n

Onam Trade Fair and Exhibition 2013 organized by Kerala Tourism is one of the biggest \u2013 if not the biggest event in the city which is held each year during Onam. The exhibition will be held from September 14 to 22 at Sooryakanthi Exhibition Ground, Kanakakunnu Palace.<\/p>\n

The expo includes handicrafts, handloom, home appliances, electronics, home need equipments, jewellery, automobile etc. The expo will also have food courts, entertainment sections, amusement area with so many rides and a play area for kids.<\/p>\n

Consumerfed Onam Fair<\/h2>\n

Consumerfed is hosting a 45-day-long Onam-Ramzan fair at LMS Compound.\u00a0 The fair will be open on all days during, including Sundays. Thirteen items will be sold at discount rates of up to 30%. People can buy the all of the specified subsidized items during the period by producing their ration cards. Cooperatives, Triveni department stores \/supermarkets \/megamarts, Neethi stores, Nanma stores and retail outlets run by service cooperative groups etc have stalls in the fair. Consumerfed Onam fair will conclude on 15th September.<\/p>\n

Coirfed Onam Metro Fair<\/h2>\n

Coirfed Onam Metro Fair offers a variety of coir products for the consumers interested in coir products. The fair showcases huge range of products ranging from coir beds to coir carpets. A major attraction at the fair is the Onam Swing. The swings are covered with coir sheet and attached to coir ropes. You can also buy Muttam Kedaka for kids below six months and Ponnuni Kedaka for those more than six months old. There are also a variety of door mats with prices ranging from Rs 80 to Rs 1,974. Coirfed offers huge discounts of 5-25% on all the products exhibited at the fair. The fair will end on October 2.<\/p>\n

There are also many cultural shows as part of the trade fair. A ‘Mega Show’ at Central Stadium will take place on the opening day of the fair. A total of 27 venues are selected for the cultural events. Some of the main venues are Poojappura Ground, Veli, Pallichal, Sree Varaham and Aakulam.<\/p>\n

Dastkar Mela-2013<\/h2>\n

Dastkar Mela <\/a>organized by the Dastkar society for crafts and craftspeople has already begun at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium. The Mela showcases over 60 crafts and craft communities from all over India, exhibiting and selling indigenous arts items, authentic to their respective regions. The collection includes hand-woven, block-printed bed linen and quilts from Jaipur, Kashmiri floral embroidery, paintings from Thanjavur and Rajasthan (miniatures), Dhurries and carpets, exclusive Khadi and pure soft cotton Bandhini, marble artefacts, block printed dress material and salwar suits, inlaid furniture in Sheesham and white wood, Channapatna and Kondapalli dolls and toys. It also showcases special collection of jewellery that includes silver, semiprecious stones and beads, art jewellery, 1-gm gold-plated and Meenakari ornaments and Blue pottery from Khurja.<\/p>\n

Onam is the most preferred season for shopping as there are much discounts available in shopping centers. Have a nice time shopping and a memorable Onam vacation.<\/p>\n
